Environmental & Sustainability - Asset Graduate Scheme
Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA
Join us and help be the energy behind the change.
National Gas is the backbone of Britain's energy system. We're responsible for securing the UK's energy, whilst leading the way to a net-zero future.
As the operator of Britain’s national gas transmission network, we repair and maintain gas pipelines, safely and reliably delivering gas to power stations, industries and 23 million homes.
Our skilled teams work to keep the gas flowing to our customers, generating power and helping to keep everyone connected.
At the same time, we’re pioneering new solutions like hydrogen transmission to help decarbonise energy, so our infrastructure continues to power the country as it transitions to net-zero.
As a graduate joining National Gas, it’s an inspiring environment where you know your work will directly contribute to keeping the nation’s energy secure today, whilst building a more sustainable, net-zero energy system for tomorrow.
About the Role
Our Asset Graduates have a brilliant opportunity to work alongside experts, who every day, are shaping policy for National Gas.
The energy industry is changing, and our network needs to evolve to meet the challenge. They do this by ensuring that our company assets are adapted and maintained regularly to reflect the ever-evolving nature of the energy sector.
Our assets make sure that homes are heated, businesses are running, and power stations are able to generate. We have a greener future to plan for, environmental commitments to meet and hydrogen to think about. We have a duty to every bill payer to deliver this efficiently - managing our assets is critical to everybody in the UK.
An Environmental Engineering and Sustainability Graduate will sit within the Policy, Engineering, Maintenance and Environment (PEME) team. This team play a key role in analysing our business carbon footprint and driving innovative solutions which contribute to our journey toward decarbonisation. Beyond carbon reduction, they contribute to climate adaptation and resilience strategies, ensuring our operations remain robust in a changing world.
This role offers you the opportunity to span your work across environmental assessments for major projects, compliance with regulatory standards, and hands-on activities such as on-site emissions surveys. You’ll also gain experience in internal audits, regulatory engagement, and producing high-quality environmental reports, from annual performance reviews to emissions disclosures.
During this 18-month programme, after your initial induction, you’ll complete three 6-month placements. This will cover all teams within the Asset business function, so that you can have exposure to different, yet relevant experiences and skillsets that will set you up for your career.
You’ll also benefit from working in a diverse, supportive team at the heart of network engineering and asset development.
About you
As a graduate, you’ll need to bring curiosity, initiative, and a problem-solving mindset to the table. A willingness to learn is essential as you’ll be tackling complex sustainability challenges in a fast-evolving landscape. Being proactive will help you identify opportunities and drive meaningful change, while strong teamwork skills will enable you to collaborate effectively across diverse disciplines. Flexibility is key, as priorities can shift quickly in response to emerging environmental risks or regulatory changes. Equally important are critical and analytical thinking skills, which will allow you to interpret data, assess risks, and develop innovative solutions.
This is an opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to practical challenges, develop expertise in sustainability leadership, and help your team to deliver measurable environmental progress.
A genuine interest in your subject area is invaluable, as is the passion and determination to succeed and grow. Approaching tasks with care and commitment, alongside a strong desire to achieve the best possible outcomes, will be key to making the most of this scheme.
