About the role
As a Gas Quality Engineer, you'll provide specialist technical expertise that helps keep the UK's gas transmission network safe, compliant, and operating reliably. You'll shape how we monitor and manage gas quality across the network, while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon energy future.
Why this role matters
What you'll be doing
- Collaborating with system integrators, suppliers, operations, and project delivery teams to provide expert advice on gas analyser systems, local odorisation systems, analytical techniques, gas composition, and gas processing
- Providing gas quality expertise for customer connection projects, including the integration of biogas supplies into the National Transmission System
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry codes, standards, and National Gas policies, procedures, and specifications
- Providing specialist technical support to operations teams to maintain and optimise gas analysis equipment performance and reliability
- Supporting commercial and project activities through technical input into contracts, project scopes, tender events, and supplier evaluations
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to develop, review, and implement policies, procedures, specifications, and industry standards
- Identifying best practice and lessons learned, ensuring they're embedded into future gas transmission projects and engineering activities
- Providing technical expertise that supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of critical gas transmission infrastructure across the UK
What you'll bring
- Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as chemical engineering or chemistry
- Knowledge and experience of using gas analysers for natural gas measurements
- Extensive chemistry/technical support skills, knowledge, and experience on analytical systems and supporting instrumentation systems
- Knowledge and experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of assets found on Gas Transmission operational sites
- Experience in applying technical standards and specifications, and resolving technical issues and queries
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions
- Full UK driving licence
- Prior experience of performing gas analysis measurements of hydrogen and/or CO2 for CCUS
- Experience supporting major infrastructure, energy, or utilities projects
