About the role:
Working as part of the Innovation team, you will provide technical and change management expertise across a diverse portfolio of Innovation projects focused on the UK's existing natural gas transmission network, improving its efficiency, reliability, resilience and safety. The role supports strategic themes including energy security & resilience, operational performance, asset management and safety, working closely with internal teams and external partners to shape ideas into deliverable work. Using a structured approach of problem identification such as Lean or Six Sigma, root cause analysis and proof-of-concept (PoC) validation, the role helps define clear value cases, de-risk solutions and translate learning into scalable improvements for business-as-usual operations.
Key accountabilities:
- Support project delivery with a high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and deploying solutions into the business.
- Seek improvements to existing ways of working and develop solutions to deliver an increased performance in area of expertise.
- Support the strategic portfolio of projects and technology roadmaps with stakeholder input.
- Work with worldwide and UK stakeholders to develop cross functional innovation projects and ensure the validity of our strategy and portfolio of projects.
- Support the technical delivery of NIA, SIF and UKRI portfolio projects in the given strategic theme.
- Support in the identification and application of external funding opportunities.
- Develop project scopes and funding bids with relevant teams.
- Develop project overview packs and financial project information for internal review.
- Monitor and manage project delivery on multiple projects progression against time, cost and quality.
- Support the value tracking and benefit realisation process of the innovation portfolio to support regulatory reporting commitments.
- Support engagement with internal and external stakeholders to disseminate knowledge and learning from the project.
About you:
Essential:
- Experience utilising six sigma and/or lean innovation mechanisms to develop programmes, business cases, and scopes of work.
- Experience of working on multidisciplinary engineering projects, communicating complex technical solutions across multi-disciplinary functions, and cross-functional indirect teams.
- Demonstrated ability to embed innovation or change programmes into operational business practices.
- Experience of managing stakeholder, supplier and client relationships and building trusted relationships.
- Experience developing and managing projects, delivering on time and within budget.
- Broad understanding of National Gas Transmission’s business.
Desirable:
- Incorporated member of an institution would be highly regarded e.g. IGEM, IMechE, IMMM, IET etc
- Knowledge of NIA and SIF project funding mechanisms and the regulatory governance requirements.
- Knowledge of external funding mechanisms (Ofgem, InnovateUK, EU).
- Knowledge of IP positions relating to innovation projects.
- Experience with regulatory and financial reporting.
- Experience of operational or technical asset management in gas transmission or petrochemical environment.
- Technical understanding of a wide range of National Gas Transmission assets.
