Innovation Intern
Warwick, GB, CV34 6DA
Join us, and help be the energy behind the change.
At National Gas, we’re helping shape the future of the UK’s energy systems as we work towards achieving Net Zero by 2050. Our Innovation Team is right at the heart of this, delivering impactful projects that accelerate sustainable technologies like hydrogen, biofuels and carbon capture – and this summer, we’re offering three undergraduates the chance to be part of that journey.
About the role
Our Innovation Intern placement is a 10–12 week paid opportunity based in our Warwick office. This internship is designed to give you real experience working alongside experts delivering transformative innovation across our network, from exploring new technology, to shaping how we embed hydrogen into our future operations. The internship is open to students from all disciplines.
You’ll work on a broad range of activities across the Innovation function, with the opportunity to take ownership of a small project tailored to your interests. You’ll also develop your research, communication and presentation skills, and gain valuable insight into how a major infrastructure organisation is tackling climate change.
Depending on your skillset, you might get involved in:
• Exploring new technologies and gathering insights as a Data Scout
• Improving processes and systems through data and tech enhancements
• Helping communicate knowledge across the business and build engagement
• Contributing to knowledge-sharing and commercial activities
• Supporting technical policy and research on hydrogen and net zero
• Working with funding and finance colleagues to support project development
The three interns will start together as a small cohort, working closely with the wider Innovation team while gaining real responsibility from day one.
About you
This internship is open to current undergraduates from any degree background - you don’t need to be an engineer or scientist. What matters most is that you’re passionate about making a positive environmental impact, curious about future energy systems, and excited by the idea of turning ideas into real-world action.
We’re looking for
• An interest in sustainability, innovation, or project delivery
• Strong research and analytical thinking
• A willingness to learn and take ownership of your work
• Good communication and collaboration skills
• Enthusiasm to get involved in a range of activities
This role is ideal if you’re considering a future career in innovation, project delivery, or sustainable infrastructure. Many of our graduates started their journey with us as interns — and we hope to consider strong performers for future graduate roles or even final year research placements.
We celebrate the different experiences our colleagues bring to our organisation, and strongly encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
What you'll need
• Be a current undergraduate student, returning to university after summer 2025
• Have the permanent right to work in the UK – we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this internship
• Be able to commute to our Warwick office (there is no accommodation or relocation allowance)
• Hold a full UK driving licence
• Be available to complete the placement during summer 2025 (we can accommodate pre-booked holiday with advance notice)
Studies suggest that women tend to apply only if they meet 100% of the criteria. If you resonate with our mission, the role excites you and your skills align, we encourage you to apply.

You’ll be paid £24,242 (pro-rata) for during your time spent with us. This internship could help you secure a place on our graduate programme, which starts at £34,646.
