About the role
If you’re passionate about turning strategy into reality and want to play a pivotal role in delivering major infrastructure programmes, this is your opportunity. As an Investment Engineer within our Major Programmes team, you’ll sit at the heart of decision-making, shaping, sponsoring and safeguarding the investments that ensure our network remains fit for the future.
This role is critical to translating long-term asset strategies into clearly defined, fully sanctioned investment projects. You’ll develop robust, evidence‑based investment proposals, sponsor complex projects through their lifecycle, and ensure delivery against regulatory, financial and performance commitments. Working closely with delivery teams and senior stakeholders, you’ll help ensure our business plans are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
What you'll be doing
- Acting as Project Sponsor for major investment projects, ensuring delivery to agreed time, cost and quality.
- Translating System Operator requirements into clear, deliverable scopes of work and securing the funding to deliver them.
- Managing a portfolio of projects to meet commitments to Ofgem across cost, schedule and outputs.
- Leading the sanction and governance process, including preparation of high‑quality sanction papers.
- Monitoring progress against complex scopes, budgets and programmes, proactively managing change and risk.
- Working closely with Project Managers to remove obstacles and maintain momentum.
- Ensuring accurate reporting and governance, including cost book management and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinating outage requirements with regional teams and escalating where required.
- Sharing best practice and coaching others to build capability across the wider Investment Planning community.
About you
You’re confident working with a wide range of stakeholders and can clearly communicate complex ideas in a way that brings people with you. Calm under pressure and naturally collaborative, you take ownership, make sound judgements, and are motivated by delivering outcomes that genuinely make a difference.
