What you’ll be doing
Are you ready to kick-start your career with hands-on experience and top-notch training? As a Construction Site Supervisor apprentice, you won’t be sat behind a screen; you'll split your time between learning out on site, working alongside experts solving real-world problems, and attending dedicated training and college days. Whilst attending in-person sessions to study for essential qualifications, travel will become an exciting part of your day-to-day life on the job.
You’ll be joining our Capital Projects construction team, where you’ll work alongside a skilled team, responsible for a variety of work across nearly all aspects of National Gas’ infrastructure. Our Capital Projects team covers a wide range of work, from security upgrades, asset replacement and pipeline diversions, to working with industry for hydrogen and biomethane connections such as Project Union, where we’re repurposing existing gas transmission pipelines and building new pipelines to create a hydrogen ‘backbone’ for the UK.
This apprenticeship offers a really varied role, and means you’ll get the opportunity to frequently travel across the UK. This means it’s essential that you’re able to drive, you’re comfortable with overnight stays and travelling multiple times a week to various sites.
You’ll learn how to:
- Supervise specialist contractors
- Control health and safety standards on construction projects
- Record, control and report on progress of a construction project
- The minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects
- Control the quality of works on a construction project
- Assist commercial staff with the monitoring of costs on a construction project
We’ll work closely with your apprenticeship provider to review your progress at regular intervals, providing feedback and guiding your development. You’ll have a tailored personalised plan that ensures you have appropriate support and training. Most of your learning will be on the job, with off-the-job training and one-to-one tutoring.
About You
This apprenticeship is perfect for someone who takes pride in their work, is proactive and thrives on ‘getting stuck in’. You’ll need to be a clear communicator, as this role will require to deal with a range of stakeholders at all levels across the business. If you’re someone that’s excited by the opportunity to learn, and will take ownership for your own development, then this could be a brilliant opportunity for you.
You’ll need:
- A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including maths and English OR a Level 2 apprenticeship.

- Our sites are located across the UK, so you’ll need to be comfortable with travel, so being able to drive is essential. This means you’ll need to have a licence before joining us on September 1st 2025.
You'll need to have permanent right to work in the UK for the entirety of this programme, as we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. You’ll also need to have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for the past three years or more prior to starting the course.

You’ll receive a range of benefits that reward your great work. Your starting annual salary will be £24,242. You'll receive a generous holiday allowance with the option to buy and sell additional days, as well as a generous pension scheme. For every £1 you pay in, National Gas will contribute £2.

You'll start in a large cohort of other apprentices, where you'll attend an in-person induction in September 2025, fostering strong workplace relationships that will build the foundation of your future networks.
