About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Competence Assessor to take ownership of the internal quality assurance of our Competency Management System (CMS). This role is pivotal in ensuring the safety and technical competency of our workforce through robust assessment practices.
As the subject matter expert (SME) for competence assessment, you will lead the development and standardisation of assessment tools, mentor assessors, and ensure consistency and fairness across all assessment outcomes. You will collaborate closely with regional teams, the Competency Manager, and the training function to drive continuous improvement and maintain alignment with regulatory and internal standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Act as SME for competence assessment and provide expert guidance to assessors.
- Lead the development and maintenance of assessment templates and tools.
- Support complex or high-risk assessments and manage escalations.
- Review assessment outcomes for consistency and alignment with frameworks.
- Mentor and coach new assessors to build internal capability.
- Collaborate with the Competency Manager to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide feedback to training teams on learner readiness and effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement in assessment processes and tools.
- Coordinate assessment scheduling and tracking across business units.
- Promote best practice and standardisation of assessment evidence.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with a strong background in competence assessment and deep technical knowledge of the gas industry. You’ll be confident working across disciplines and have a passion for maintaining high standards and driving improvement.
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in assessing workplace competence.
- Significant experience in the gas industry, particularly in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation disciplines.
- Strong understanding of Gas Transmission’s Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures.
- ASV001 - Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment.
- Skilled in using Office 365 and other relevant digital tools.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and coordination abilities.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience leading or mentoring assessors.
- Familiarity with competency frameworks and internal quality assurance processes.
- Experience in developing assessment tools and templates.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to workforce competence.
