About the role
As an MCerts Emissions Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in driving sustainability and operational excellence across the national transmission system. As part of our emissions team, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to deliver safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible gas transmission. Your work will directly support our maintenance and project delivery, ensuring we meet our safety, economic, and regulatory obligations. You’ll lead MCerts-certified stack emissions testing and methane leak detection programmes, helping us reduce emissions and drive continuous improvement across the network.
What you'll be doing
- Lead site work delivering both stack and fugitive emissions programmes across the National Transmission System (NTS)
- Maintain high standards of work, equipment calibration, and laboratory accreditation (ISO17025)
- Operate independently, as part of a team, or supervise small teams to achieve business objectives and compliance
- Support and deliver methane leak detection and repair (LDAR) programmes
- Analyse technical data and write reports to inform asset management and drive emissions reduction
- Challenge existing processes and develop innovative solutions to enhance performance
- Liaise with external bodies and trade associations to maximise business value
- Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives across our sites in-line with our annual plan
About you
You’re a proactive problem solver with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving positive change. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with stakeholders will set you up for success in this dynamic, hybrid role.
Key requirements & experience
Essential:
- Fully accredited MCerts Level 1 (will be put on a development plan to achieve Level 2)
- Wide understanding and experience of MCerts-accredited stack emissions testing
- Strong data analysis skills (especially in Microsoft Excel)
- Soft skills - Excellent stakeholder management, planning, and coordination abilities
- Valid UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel UK-wide including overnights stays on average 50% of the week
Desirable:
- Fully accredited MCerts Level 2
- Additional driving endorsements (B+E highly desirable)
- Experience operating gas turbines or CHP
- Knowledge of industry and emissions legislation
- Initiative and willingness to share ideas for improvement
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
