This is a senior role within our in-house Trustee Pensions team, supporting the governance and strategic development of our DB Pension Scheme.  This position offers the opportunity to manage key relationships and contribute to high-impact projects.  You will work with external advisers, trustees and colleagues to ensure continuous improvement in pensions governance.

About the role:

 

  • Enable effective Trustee governance by supporting the Secretary to the Trustee and Trustee Pensions Manager in the successful delivery of Trustee Board meetings, ensuring timely preparation of Board packs and coordination of adviser papers.
  • Lead or support the delivery of sub-committee and working group meetings, ensuring agendas are strategically aligned, meeting materials are comprehensive, and outcomes are clearly documented and tracked.
  • Strengthen governance frameworks by maintaining core elements such as the Own Risk Assessment, ESOG, trustee effectiveness reviews, annual business plan, and risk register, ensuring regulatory compliance and strategic alignment.
  • Facilitate informed decision-making by acting as a central liaison between the Trustee, advisors, and company stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and timely exchange of information.
  • Optimise advisor performance and collaboration by managing relationships and coordinating activities across external advisors, including administrators, legal, actuarial, and investment consultants.
  • Deliver key strategic projects by co-ordinating and supporting sub committees, for GMP equalisation, benefit specification reviews, data cleansing, Pension Dashboards, and TCFD disclosures, ensuring milestones are met and outcomes achieved.
  • Ensure robust case management by supporting the resolution of complex discretion cases, complaints, and Internal Dispute Resolution Procedures (IDRP), maintaining fairness, consistency, and regulatory compliance.

 

About you:

 

  • Strong understanding of pension scheme governance frameworks (e.g. ESOG, Own Risk Assessment, risk registers)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practice for trustee boards and sub-committees
  • Strategic planning and prioritisation to support delivery of annual business plans and effectiveness reviews
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills for coordinating agendas, meeting packs, and logistics
  • Clear and concise written communication for drafting minutes and tracking and completing actions
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to liaise effectively with trustees, advisors, and company contacts
  • Influencing and negotiation skills to manage expectations and facilitate consensus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes to deadlines
  • Risk awareness and mitigation planning to anticipate and address project challenges
  • Understanding of DB pension scheme operations, including benefit structures, actuarial processes, and investment strategy
  • Familiarity with discretion cases, complaints, and IDRP procedures
  • Ability to interpret legal and regulatory advice and apply it in a scheme context
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to assess governance effectiveness and identify improvements
  • Ability to distil complex information and present it clearly to non-specialist audiences
