About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join the West Import Resilience programme, a multi-year initiative aimed at increasing capacity on the National Transmission System (NTS). This role is critical to the successful delivery of the Pressure Uprating project, which involves upgrading existing above-ground installations to enable operation above normal pressure levels.
Working on fully operational sites, the Project Manager will collaborate closely with site teams to ensure seamless integration of new and existing equipment. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will oversee contractor construction and commissioning programmes, manage sub-suppliers across various NEC4 contract types, and ensure projects are delivered to time, cost, and specification.
You will play a key role in delivering capital projects in line with the Network Development Process, supporting National Gas’s Net Zero targets, and working alongside a diverse team of professionals across Major Programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of large-scale capital investment projects with a strong focus on safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
- Manage contractor programmes and sub-suppliers under NEC4 contracts (Options A, E, C).
- Ensure integration of new equipment with existing infrastructure on live operational sites.
- Oversee risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental legislation and internal standards.
- Support regulatory reporting and submissions in collaboration with GT Investment and Regulation teams.
- Provide accurate and timely project updates to senior leadership.
- Represent the Senior Project Manager or Project Director when required.
- Lead and develop project teams and external suppliers.
- Ensure projects remain within governance for scope, cost, and schedule.
- Make informed decisions to ensure successful delivery of the Gas Capital plan.
What We're Looking For
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in leading large capital investment projects.
- Strong project management skills, including risk, cost, and schedule control.
- Experience managing NEC4 contracts and driving cost efficiency.
- Familiarity with NEC4 Short Form and Professional Services Contracts.
- Working knowledge of safety and environmental legislation and practices.
- Experience with Design, Safety, and Environmental Management systems.
- Ability to manage high workloads independently and prioritise effectively.
- Background in utility construction, preferably in gas or petrochemical industries.
- Educated to at least HNC/HND level in an engineering discipline.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Working towards or holding Chartered status in engineering or project/contract management.
- Recognised qualifications in Project Management, Health & Safety, Environmental, or Financial Management.
- Understanding of NGT’s G/35 and RE/18 commissioning processes.
- Experience in construction, utilities, energy, or rail sectors.
- Direct experience working on medium to high-pressure gas networks and assets.
The role will involve hybrid working with a combination home, office & site working, as well as travel to Contractor or supplier premises across the UK.
