About us

At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the role

As a Senior Asset Manager, you'll shape the long-term investment strategy for assets across the National Transmission System. You'll develop asset management plans that support safe, reliable, and resilient energy infrastructure, ensuring critical investment decisions deliver value for customers, today and in the future.

Why this role matters

The UK's energy system is evolving, and the security of our national gas transmission network has never been more important. This role helps ensure the infrastructure that keeps energy flowing remains safe, resilient and ready to meet future challenges, including the transition to net zero and the potential role of hydrogen.

You'll play a key role in turning technical insight into investment decisions that protect critical national infrastructure. Working across engineering, regulation, finance, and external stakeholders, you'll help secure funding, influence strategy and drive long-term improvements that support energy security for millions of people.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop long-term asset management plans that balance risk, performance, cost and regulatory requirements
  • Shape investment strategies that support the reliability, resilience and future readiness of assets
  • Build evidence-based business cases and Engineering Justification Reports to secure funding for critical asset investment
  • Use asset risk analysis and whole-life cost principles to inform investment decisions and prioritisation
  • Work with engineering, finance, regulation, and operational teams to deliver high-quality asset management outcomes
  • Provide clear recommendations to senior leaders and stakeholders on asset condition, investment needs and strategic priorities
  • Support and guide specialist asset management colleagues, helping drive consistency and quality across the function

  • Experience developing business cases and investment justifications for asset-intensive networks or infrastructure
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information and make evidence-based recommendations
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience within the energy, utilities or wider infrastructure sectors
  • Knowledge of gas transmission networks or related asset classes
  • Experience engaging with regulators, government bodies, or industry stakeholders
