At National Gas, we operate Major Accident Hazard (MAH) plants where safety is paramount. The Senior Chemical Engineer is central to identifying and preventing hazards that could have serious consequences for our people and the public. Your expertise will help us maintain the highest standards of safety and ensure our operations remain world-class.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading safety studies (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZCON, and more) for projects, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated effectively.
  • Progressing key process safety projects and driving continuous improvement.
  • Evaluating and advancing Management of Change requests related to process safety.
  • Reviewing and developing our process safety policies and standards.
  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance and developing new policies.
  • Identifying weaknesses in our safety approach and implementing robust solutions.
  • Applying deep chemical engineering knowledge to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Mentoring and leading others on the journey to process safety excellence.

About you

Key requirements & experience

Essential:

  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Significant experience in a Major Accident Hazard environment (design, operations, or consultancy).
  • Degree in chemical engineering, with a strong grasp of engineering principles related to process plant and process safety.
  • Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and communicate solutions clearly.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams through demanding technical studies, maintaining focus, pace, and clarity.
  • Ability to generate clear, concise reports with actionable recommendations.

 

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
