Welding Engineer - Remote with travel - Up to £65,000

About the role:

We’re looking for a motivated individual with a keen interest in welding engineering to support critical projects across new construction, asset health and customer-driven initiatives. This is a developing role offering tailored training and the opportunity to become a subject matter expert in welding, non-destructive testing (NDT) and materials across our transmission pipelines and above-ground installations (AGIs).

 

In this role, you’ll be central to ensuring our welding and NDT activities comply with legislation and internal specifications. You’ll review and approve welding and NDT documentation, coordinate with third-party specialists, and provide technical guidance across a wide range of stakeholders. From responding to welding-related queries to supporting audits and inspections, you’ll play a key part in maintaining high engineering standards across our projects.

 

You’ll also be involved in technical input for commercial activities such as tender evaluations, supplier qualification and factory acceptance testing (FATs). By contributing to working groups, supporting technical escalations and embedding lessons learned, you’ll help shape and continuously improve our engineering approach.

Travel will be part of the job – we have a national portfolio. You'll spend up to 40% of your working week travelling and working on sites/attending meetings to support in the delivery of the projects with home working in-between. Therefore, it’s essential you hold a full UK driving licence. 

What we're looking for:

Essential - 

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a welding or engineering discipline (or hold a qualification in mechanical or materials science and looking to transition to a career in welding engineering)
  • Knowledge of welding processes and review of weld procedures used for the construction of gas pipeline and associated plant
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, chemistry of materials with regards welding engineering
  • Knowledge of the main non-destructive methods used for construction and ongoing monitoring of gas pipelines and associated plant, including radiography and manual phased array ultrasonics
  • Experience in applying relevant policies, procedures and specifications and the resolution of technical issues
  • Full UK car driving licence

 

Desirable - 

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and the application of Quality Management
  • Systems within Gas Construction projects
  • Knowledge and experience of planning, design, construction and asset maintenance
  • Knowledge of product specifications and relevant national/international standards
  • Experience in undertaking inspections and monitoring product manufacturing activities at suppliers and construction sites
  • Experience of reviewing & accepting product certification records & manufacturing records books
  • Production of technical reports, supplier visits, investigations and resolution of issues/findings
