£44,642 to £52,529 + up to 6% bonus + access to liveried vehicle

Location: West Midlands & South West
Working pattern: Site-based, 5 days a week
Travel: Regular travel across Bristol, Gloucester, Worcester, and South Birmingham
Location requirement: You'll need to be based within a reasonable travelling distance of the region to support operational requirements.

About the role
Join National Gas as an Operations Technician and help maintain the systems and infrastructure that keep Britain's gas transmission network operating safely and reliably.
We're looking for people with experience in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems, Operational Technology, or Cyber environments. You'll support critical operational assets across the network, helping to improve reliability, resolve faults, and protect the systems that underpin our operations.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll work across maintenance, fault finding, system improvements, and operational technology. Whether your background is Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or Cyber, you'll have the opportunity to broaden your technical expertise while supporting critical national infrastructure.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintain electrical, instrumentation, control, and operational technology assets across multiple operational sites
- Diagnose faults and restore equipment performance to support reliable network operations
- Support the maintenance and improvement of PLC, SCADA, control, and industrial network systems
- Carry out inspections, testing, and planned maintenance activities
- Support the implementation of operational technology and cyber security controls
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and specialist teams to deliver safe and effective solutions
- Participate in a standby rota following training
What you’ll bring
This role would suit someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving problems, and working in a field-based operational environment.
Essential
- Experience in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Control Systems, Operational Technology, Automation, or Cyber-related environments
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, or technical documentation
- Experience working with industrial equipment, control systems, or operational assets
- Strong focus on safety, reliability, and engineering standards
- Ability to work independently and manage work across multiple locations
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience with PLC, SCADA, instrumentation, industrial control, or network systems
- Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) or industrial cyber security principles
- Experience working within utilities, manufacturing, process industries, or critical infrastructure
- Electrical, Instrumentation, Engineering, or related technical qualification
- Experience participating in a standby rota
Security clearance
